Michael A. Escamilla, M.D.
Michael Escamilla is a Jungian analyst and psychiatrist in private practice in San Antonio, Texas, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. He received his bachelor’s degree in general studies from Harvard (1983) and his medical degree from Southwestern Medical School at the University of Texas (1989). He completed a residency in psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco, becoming an American Psychiatric Association fellow in psychiatric genetics. Dr. Escamilla completed his analytic training at the C.G. Jung Institute Zürich (2014) and is currently a member of the International Association of Analytical Psychology, the Dallas Jung Institute, and the Inter-regional Society of Jungian Analysts.
He is board-certified in Psychiatry and currently licensed to practice in the states of New York, Texas, and New Mexico. He is bilingual (Spanish/English) and bicultural, a citizen of both Mexico and the United States.
Dr. Escamilla served as the Mary Weir Chair in Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio (1998-2010), and was also the founding department chair of Psychiatry at Texas Tech Health Science Center in El Paso (2010-2019) and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (2019-2022). He was also the founding Director of the Center of Excellence in Neurosciences at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in El Paso (2010-2019). He retired from the University of Texas System in 2022 to devote his time to Jungian psychotherapy, writing, and editing.
He has conducted seminal studies in the genetics of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia in Latino populations, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, for which he has served as an adviser on psychiatric genetics research. He has collaborated with and mentored mental health professionals and researchers, led research studies, and mentored graduate and fellowship students in the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and South America. He has continued this research work as a faculty associate at Rutgers University since 2022.
He has taught and lectured internationally on topics of Psychiatry and Jungian Analysis, including at meetings of the International Association of Analytical Psychology meetings in Vienna and Zurich, and Jungian training programs in China, Texas, and California.
In 2015, he was named the Frank N. McMillan Jr. Institute for Jungian Studies at the Jung Center Houston, where he teaches on Analytical Psychology, coordinates the annual Fay Lectures on Analytical Psychology, edits the Fay Lecture book series (Texas A&M Press), and has a blog (“Jung in the 21st Century”) on the Jung Page. He has published over 100 journal articles and book chapters and is the author of Bleuler, Jung, & the Creation of the Schizophrenias, published by Daimon Verlag in 2016.

J. Martin Rodriguez is a seasoned healthcare administrator and behavioral health professional with over two decades of experience leading complex, multi-site programs across California, New Mexico, and Texas. With a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and a background in business administration and accountancy, he brings a rare combination of clinical insight and operational expertise to large-scale healthcare initiatives.
Rodriguez has led major state and federally funded programs, including a $5 million regional child and adolescent mental health initiative in Texas, where he directed multidisciplinary teams, built cross-sector partnerships, and oversaw five integrated service lines. His leadership spans program development, fiscal management, compliance, and workforce development, with a strong emphasis on culturally and linguistically responsive care.
In addition to his executive leadership roles, Rodriguez has contributed extensively to clinical research in neuropsychology and Latino mental health, with multiple national presentations and peer-reviewed publications. His early research focused on cultural psychiatry, cognitive assessment, and health disparities in underserved populations.
Currently, he supports psychiatric research and operations as Administrator of Data & Research for a multi-state organization, where he oversees data validation, financial processes, and organizational development in a remote environment.
